Japan Funds Health, Education and Agriculture projects
Today, H.E. Kazuo Minagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, is to sign, at the Embassy of Japan, the grant contracts totalling over 1billion shillings (US$ 385,547) with the representatives of four grass-roots organizations for health, education, and agriculture projects.
For education, Bukooli College in Bugiri district will receive US$ 118,785 to construct a girls dormitory, pit latrines, water tanks and fencing. The school has capacity to accommodate only 54 girls in its dormitory. Through this project, a new dormitory will be constructed and the school will be able to accommodate some 340 girls, greatly improving the learning environment for the girl students.
For health, Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services in Uganda in Wakiso district will receive US$ 67,632 to procure an arthroscopic machine. Through this project, poor handicapped people, mostly children, without access to health care will be able receive high quality knee and hip surgery. This project will improve the quality of arthroscopy services benefiting more than 4,000 disabled people.
In Luwero, St. Bruno Kalagala primary school in Kikyusa Sub County will receive US$ 80,515. At this school, one classroom block was constructed in 1980 with its very weak wall and floor maintained by soil and cow dung, and one latrine is used by 95 pupils. This project will construct 2 classroom blocks (2 classrooms each), a 4 stance toilet block, and procure pupils desks and chairs for teachers to improve the school infrastructure.
In Agriculture Multi-Purpose Training and Community Empowerment Association (MTCEA) will receive, for the second time in GGP scheme, US$ 118,615 for procurement of 220 oxen, 110 carts, 110 ploughs, and training of farmers. The project will improve the living condition of the farmers and ensure food security in 5 Districts of Iganga, Kibuku, Luuka, Pallisa, and Namutumba.
The donations above are part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, a scheme administered by the Japanese Embassy to support community-based development projects in Uganda.

The grant contract signing ceremony will take place at the Conference Room (2nd Floor), Embassy of Japan, Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, Kampala, starting at 11:00am, on 6th March 2013.
